      : Daniel Tancredi Ph.D.

Grant proposals typically require a statistical analysis section and a power and sample size justification section. Incomplete, missing or erroneous statistical sections can doom an otherwise strong proposal. Similarly, in scientific papers, the statistical methods used need to be adequately described and the results of statistical analyses reported appropriately. In this seminar, we will first detail the information necessary to include in statistical analysis and sample size justification sections of grant proposals. Building on this discussion, we will provide guidance on writing statistical methods sections for scientific manuscripts with examples. Finally, we will explain what information to present and how in reporting results of statistical tests in scientific papers.

      Learning objectives:

Understand what needs to be included in grant proposals with respect to statistical analysis plans and sample size justification and how to craft these sections

Be able to write an adequate statistical analysis section for a scientific paper

Know what information from statistical analyses to report and how to present it in a scientific paper
