Exploring Nature with Acrylic Paints with Jennifer Keller

Exploring Nature with Acrylic Paint: Three Thursdays a Month  with Jennifer Laurel Keller At University Art, 2601 J Street, Sacramento, CA In this series of three Thursdays a month, you'll gain more experience and confidence in order to paint anything from nature.  You can keep coming back for as many months as you want!   The painting subjects will never repeat!  Each session will be a full day of diving into a seasonal subject.   Every month we will spend three Thursdays working on a landscape, a botanical piece, and an animal-themed piece.  Think snowy mountains and owls in January, wildflowers and songbirds in May, tropical beaches and horses in July, and changing leaves and deer in November.   Here's what you can expect in each class: An instructor who's kind, cheerful, knowledgeable, and will make you giggle. Fancy color mixing demonstrations. How to work with light and shadow to create life-like paintings. How to loosen up your brushwork so that your paintings don't seem stiff and awkward. How to see what's actually in a scene instead of what you think you want to see. Pleasing, seasonal reference pictures that will fine tune your skills while keeping things fun and friendly. A bonus painting lab of un-instructed time to focus on any project you want from 4-6 pm. Creativity coaching to tap into a more intuitive and fearless headspace. Simple, extracurricular exercises to take home for added practice. 3-week sessions - every month Three Thursdays a Month from 10 am - 4 pm Plus bonus painting labs from 4-6 pm Payment Plans: 1 Month (3 sessions): $250 3 Months (9 sessions): $650 - Save $100  6 Months (18 sessions): $1200 - Save $300 2018 DATES: January Session: Thursdays, January 4. 11. 18 February Session: 1, 8, 15 March Session: 1, 8, 15 April Session: 5, 12, 26 (due to classroom scheduling we will skip the 19th and resume on the 26th) May Session: 3, 10, 17 June Session: 7, 14, 28 (due to classroom scheduling we will skip the 21st and resume on the 28th) July Session: 5, 12, 19 August Session: 2, 9, 16 September Session: 30, 6, 13 (the prior month has 5 Thursdays, so we'll resume on August 30th but it will count towards the September session) October Session: 4, 11, 18 November Session: 1, 8, 15 December Session: 6, 13, 20 Materials List:  Jennifer will supply all Golden Fluid acrylic paint, glass pallets, picture references, water containers, and paint rags.  You can bring any of your own favorite paints if you like a different acrylic brand.  Synthetic Bristle Brushes: Bright (my favorite) or flat brushes # 2, 6, & 10 (or ½ - ¾ ” stroke brush).  With brushes, you get what you pay for. Get the best ones you can afford.  I look for a good “snap” to the bristles.  Not too weak, not too stiff.  Other optional brushes would be a round brush: size 1 or 2.  Filbert, size 6.  Feel free to bring any other of your favorite brushes. Two 11 x 14" canvases or canvas panels. A sketchbook. A pallet.  I will have extra sheet glass pallets that I can offer.  I make them from leftover glass from the custom framing department and I tape up the edges.  This method works well, but you must be careful because glass is fragile.  If you want to play it safe, bring a disposable pallet paper pad.   A pencil or two - sharpened Food or money for food.  We'll have a 45-minute lunch break as well as a couple 10-minute breaks. You can bring lunch or visit one of the many eateries on J Street.
