      Embracing Each Moment: A Daylong Meditation Retreat with Anam Thubten

      This Retreat There are three important aspects of meditation: mindful attention, open awareness and lovingkindness. By practicing these, we can let go of negative mental patterns and expand our heart and mind, bringing about joy, peace and inner freedom. Anam Thubten will teach and guide participants in developing these three aspects of meditation and share Buddhist wisdom on working with our thoughts and emotions. Registration The fee is on a sliding scale of $25 to $60, according to ability.  Scholarships are available upon request.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds.  Please contact the registrar, Joe, at joseph.sbmg@gmail.com or 916-594-7806  in advance to arrange for financial assistance or to register with him directly.  If you wish to pay at the door or via check to the registrar, those options are available to you on the payment information page after you click the green "Register" button, enter the desired money amount and click the green "Checkout" button.   Biography Anam Thubten grew up in Tibet and at an early age began to practice in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Among his many teachers, his most formative guides were Lama Tsurlo, Khenpo Chopel, and Lama Garwang. He is the founder and spiritual advisor of Dharmata Foundation, teaching widely in the U.S. and abroad. He is also the author of various articles and books in both the Tibetan and English language. His books in English include The Magic of Awareness and No Self, No Problem. Through the essential wisdom of Buddhism and his personal experience on the spiritual path, Anam Thubten brings alive the timeless teachings and invites everyone to participate. Details to Consider Please try to arrive by 9:45 am to register and settle in.  Wear comfortable clothing,bring a covered mug or water bottle, bag lunch and your personal cushion if you have one. Chairs and cushions will be available at the retreat, as well as tea and hot water.  In the spirit of doing no harm, we ask that you refrain from using scented products that may affect others.  The Dharma Center is wheelchair accessible. SBMG hosts teachers from all Buddhist traditions at weekly meetings and monthly daylong retreats.  All have been welcome since 1991.  SBMG is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Dana "Dana" is the Pali word for generosity and is the first paramita in Buddhism.  You will be invited to give an additional teacher donation on the day of the retreat to thank and honor the teacher yourself as these teachings are priceless and freely given by the teacher (meaning they don't charge a specific fee). The registration fee contributes to the rent, administrative costs, teacher travel, and material expenses for both this retreat as well as SBMG's ongoing Sunday Night programs.
