Friends of the River (FOR) is pleased to announce our annual Sacramento event honoring river conservation throughout California. Join us to celebrate the spirit and leadership that keep our rivers and canyons protected.

This year we honor State Senator Lois Wolk and Restore the Delta (RTD) for spearheading efforts to protect the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. For the better part of the last decade, Senator Lois Wolk and RTD have fought to ensure that the sustainability and health of the Delta are central to any plans to address California’s water delivery system. Along with delectable food, terrific wine and beer, this event is a wonderful opportunity to socialize with old and new friends and support ongoing efforts to protect California’s Rivers.

Money raised at this event will support FOR’s river conservation work.

      The 2013 awardees:

      Restore the Delta (RTD)

Since its inception in 2006 RTD has been at the forefront of the fight to protect the largest estuary on the west coast of the America’s and continues to work tirelessly to make the health of the Delta and the well-being of the Delta communities central to any proposed solution to water delivery issues in California. RTD underwrote the award-winning documentary on the Delta, Over Troubled Waters, which is making the rounds of film festivals across California raising awareness of this critical issue. RTD is a grassroots campaign committed to making the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta fishable, swimmable, drinkable, and farmable to benefit all of California.

      State Senator Lois Wolk

During her many years of public service, Lois Wolk has earned a reputation as a problem solver by successfully tackling difficult issue areas, including water, the Delta, and flood management. Senator Wolk chairs the Senate Select Committee on Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and she serves on Senate’s Natural Resources and Water Committee. Senator Wolk is also the Senate’s representative on the Delta Protection Commission, charged with protecting and maintaining the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta’s environmental, agricultural, and recreational values—and is a liaison advisor to the Delta Conservancy Board, tasked with supporting efforts that advance both environmental protection and the economic well-being of Delta residents. While in the Assembly, Lois Wolk authored AB 1328 in 2007-8 that designated 31 miles of Cache Creek in Yolo and Lake Counties as a State Wild, Scenic and Recreational River.
